In the late afternoon, I made my way to Agrigento to see the stunning Valley of the Temples. This is one of 59 UNESCO Italian sites. After Athens and Rome, this is the 3rd largest historical site. The temples were stunning and as the sun was setting, they were illuminated with a beautiful golden light.

In total, you will find the remains of seven temples, all in the Doric style. Walking among the temples, you see beautiful old olive trees and stunning vistas of Agrigento.

The temple of Concordia was built in 5th century BC and is the best preserved in the Valley. Due to this, it is ranked one of the most notable buildings of Greek civilization existing today.

Interestingly, excavation on the site continues up to today. The country of Sicily starts with the Greeks! If you can make your way to see this Valley, I would encourage you to do it. It’s like stepping back in time and brilliance of the Greek architecture is awe inspiring.
