Day 38 is my final day in Sicily and it’s also my birthday! I spent the morning at the beach to soak in that last bit of sun. In the afternoon, I did some shopping and bought myself some birthday gifts😁. I got a lot of well wishes during the day and I chatted with friends and family which was great. I ended the evening back at my favourite restaurant and treated myself to a wonderful early dinner.

I enjoyed my 14 days in Sicily and saw so many wonderful places and met some amazing people. I enjoyed the tour for the simple reason that I visited some towns that I don’t think I would have on my own. However, I have come to the conclusion that going on an organized tour is not something I particularly enjoy. I know planning a trip on your own is more work, as I did the first 27 days, but I like that better so I’m going to stick to that. Speaking of, I’m off to Milan tomorrow for my final week in Italy. I’ve planned this myself so I have more places to see, family to meet with and just more adventures.

Day 39 was a travel day and I arrived in Milan late afternoon where it was pouring rain and cold. A drastic change in weather from the beach at Sicily! I settled into my apartment and did a quick stop at a nearby grocery store for some essentials and then settled in for the night.

Day 40 start off cloudy but I bundled up and made my way to Il Duomo. As advertised, it was just an 8 minute walk from my apartment. Il Duomo was as stunning as I had heard it would be and La Galleria was a fun experience. There weren’t that many people out due to the weather.

In the Galleria, I met the owner of Libreria Bocca, the oldest bookstore in Italy, founded in 1775. It features floor-to-ceiling shelves full of wonderful books and historic art. Monica Lodetti and her brother currently are the custodians of this fabulous treasure and Monica was kind enough to give me some history on the store and her family. I bought books, of course, and she was kind enough to stamp the family archive book with the bookstore stamp. This was a book lover’s dream!

In the afternoon, the sun came out and I wandered the city looking for photo opportunities and shopping!
